Port Antonio , Portland — The inaugural Superstars of Port Antonio International Marlin Tournament, held at the Errol Flynn Marina with West Indies Petroleum as the main sponsor, was recently won by Gabby Milan11.

Tournament Director and Director of Games Fishing Limited Robert “Bobby” Stewart hailed the tournament as a success. “We are very happy with the turnout and how it went; 16 marlin released and one white marlin landed with 14 boats fishing and each boat releasing a marlin.

“We had two rare sail fish landed and a white marlin that is very rare. The support was very good and we are all happy as this was a success. The facility was great and we will be coming back,” Stewart said.

Doug Halsall, owner of winning boat Gabby Milan11, was happy. “It was a very good tournament and we followed the instructions from the organisers. I have been fishing for a number of years and it was the first time I have hooked up a marlin. (Halsall won the prize for the first-timer hooked marlin). We are looking forward to going to Puerto Rico for the offshore fishing next year,” he said.

Gabby Millan11 released a marlin each day.

Top female angler and overall angler for the tournament, Paulette Tia Chun, was elated. “I am very excited and it took me six years to get to this point. This tournament has been exceptional for me and I worked hard and the experience over the years has helped me.” Tia Chun hooked and released the first blue marlin within an hour after the start.

One white marlin was landed weighing 51 pounds by Bye Pass.

The top four yachts were Gabby Milan11, Keepin it Jiggy, Persistence and Safe Passage.
