KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Jamaica Teachers’ Association (JTA) has expressed grave “disappointment and disgust” after its team met with the Ministry of Finance and the Public Service to resume negotiations and found that, “in essence, there is no new offer on the table”.

The JTA noted its concern about the seriousness of the government in concluding salary negotiations against the background that the teachers unanimously rejected the offer, which included a six per cent increase over two years on basic salary at its annual conference in August.

The association, in a release this afternoon, said it would be intensifying its efforts to secure a better offer from the government for teachers.  

“We will be having a series of parish meetings during November, beginning this Friday, in St Thomas, St Mary and Trelawny,” the JTA said, explaining that these meetings will be followed by a general council meeting on Saturday, November 25.

The JTA added that the council would then determine the next course of action.
