The time is at hand for the Burger King-sponsored Superstakes, a race which since its inception has evoked the passion of all racing fans and the professionals involved in the sport of horse racing.

This year is absolutely no exception, as the quintessential battle of the sexes looms – the Triple Crown winner She’s A Maneater against the ‘boys’ – mainly represented by Bigdaddykool and Will In Charge – with She’s A Maneater being the only filly among the eight nominated starters.

This year’s Burger King Superstakes will answer some raging questions, with the Supreme Racing Guide having its say as to the likely winner.

SHE’S A MANEATER – Now faces her sternest test against the top stayers in the country, after conquering her peers at the three-year-old level and attaining Triple Crown glory. She’s A Maneater is a filly of immense talent who is also versatile over the many distances on offer, plus her ability to race in whatever position she finds herself. She’s A Maneater is as fit as hands can make her, with the only talking point being the non-availability of her regular rider Omar Walker. Fit, ready and classy, She’s A Maneater represents the future of racing, and a victory here will cement her place as one among the best ever. It won’t be easy, as the more experienced colts will not let her have it her own way. This is the ultimate test for the filly.

SUPERLUMINAL – Very useful sort who is rugged and always ready for battle, especially over the longer distances. Superluminal will find it difficult here, but is not going down without a fight. Note the cheek pieces are off.

UNCLE TAF – Has been racing quite a bit of late, but has not been seeing the winning post. Uncle Taf likes to lead and may affect the final placings with his speed.

DYSFUNCTIONAL – Wrong place, wrong time, wrong race.

BIGDADDYKOOL – The premier stayer right now. Bigdaddykool won this race last year in the stewards’ room after the disqualification of Franfield. He has only one win this season and has been beaten by Will In Charge in two of the major long-distance battlegrounds. Now Bigdaddykool is substantially better off in the handicaps when compared with Will In Charge. He has been prepared to the minute by his trainer Anthony Nunes, and is coming in to administer payback. Bigdaddykool is perfectly suited for the Superstakes. He will provide the major challenge to the filly She’s A Maneater, and it’s a challenge which the Supreme Racing Guide is backing him to win. Bigdaddykool is the choice.

WILL IN CHARGE – Enters the Superstakes on the back of two rousing victories over Bigdaddykool – first in the Prime Minister’s Stakes in August and then the Governor General’s Stakes in September. Will In Charge’s young trainer Robert Pearson has done a remarkable job getting the chestnut colt to where he is at the present time – among the top thoroughbreds on offer. Will In Charge will, however, have to overcome a substantial handicap disadvantage when compared with Bigdaddykool, his main foe during this season. Yet sometimes handicaps can be discarded for true pluck and grit. It is difficult, but with his current form and his knack of winning a fight, Will In Charge is afforded a good chance of winning the Superstakes. Will be present and will make a bold if not winning bid, and is sure to get a good ride from Shane Ellis.

ROYAL VIBES – Even with the tongue tie now off, this old stager is going to find it very difficult.

HOVER CRAFT – Winner on last but in Overnight Allowance company, which is two notches down from tomorrow’s competing level. Hover Craft represents the school of hard knocks and is therefore not without some consideration in this race. He enjoys 10 furlongs (2,000m) but does not pack sufficient class to win, and the best he can hope for is a small share of the pie.
