Jamaican and Caribbean number one Chris Binnie claimed his third Professional Squash Association title with a win at the Meadow Mill Athletic Club’s 25th Anniversary Celebration Tournament in Baltimore, USA, last weekend.

The eight-time Caribbean champion entered the tournament as the favourite and lived up to his billing. In the first round he dismissed Omar Sohby of the US, 11-3, 11-7, 11-5, and then was up 11-3, 11-5 against Anthony Graham of England when the Englishman retired due to injury.

In the semi-finals Binnie had a rematch with Roberto Pezzota of Argentina, who knocked him out of the Cleveland Skating Club Open two weeks ago. This time around, Binnie avenged the prior loss, dispatching Pezzota 11-8, 11-8, 11-6.

In the final Binnie faced Syed Bukhari of Pakistan, a steely qualifier who had battled his way through the draw. But the Jamaican proved too much for the Pakistani and Binnie won 11-6, 11-7, 13-11 to take the third PSA title of his career.

“I’m working hard to make this a breakthrough season and it’s encouraging to be getting positive results. It’s especially rewarding to have another professional title under my belt and I will definitely be looking to win more because my goal is to break into the top 50,” Binnie said.

The top national player will lead the Jamaican contingent to the World Men’s Team Squash Championships scheduled for November 27 – December 3 in Marseilles, France. After that he will contest a qualification event to earn a spot in the main draw of the World Championships which will be held in Manchester, England, from December 9-17, 2017.
