With the Burger King-sponsored Superstakes Race Day done and dusted last Saturday, full attention now turns to the two-year-olds. Six juveniles are to contest the Abbie Grannum Memorial Cup at Caymanas Park tomorrow.

Although the field is small, a lot of fireworks are expected as a few good-looking runners will be aiming for the lion’s share of the $900,000 purse in the maiden special weight event over seven furlongs (1,400m).

The Supreme Racing Guide takes a closer look at the entrants and their chances of releasing the maiden tag.

WILSON – Didn’t do badly on debut (October 25) when finishing six lengths fifth to Esperanza in a five-and-a-half-furlong(1,100m) event which ended in a decent 1:08.0. Wilson will benefit from that run, and with Dick Cardenas now replacing Bebeto Harvey in the saddle, a good run is expected from this bay colt, who has been working well.

EL PROFESOR – All the rage on debut 11 days ago, but found My Beirut too hot to handle going five-and-a-half furlongs (1,100m). El Profesor had to be chasing from the get-go in that race, and now given a little more real estate, this bay colt by Casual Trick – Royal Victress is going to find it easier. El Profesor is a live contender here.

ROYAL AVIATOR – Scratched lame on his intended debut on October 28, and with little to show at excercise, Royal Aviator is going to need time.

A SEH SOUP – Ran a much better race on November 1 when competing over five furlongs (1,000m) round. A Seh Soup finished third on that occasion, three lengths behind winner Dreaming Of Magic. Before that, A Seh Soup was 16 lengths adrift of the talented Another Vigorous in a quick 1:05.4 going five-and-a-half furlongs (1,100m) and if that is anything to go by, then this Liquidity offspring should give a good account of herself here.

MARQUESAS – Finished second in his two starts, first to Lovely Day by two lengths going six-and-a-half furlongs (1,300m) after being slowly into stride. The bay colt came back, and although he was outclassed by Greek Goddess going seven furlongs (1,400m), he was in a challenging position at the half-mile. Marquesas is going to love every inch of the journey, and he can go one better since Shane Ellis replaces Everton Miller in the saddle.
