Police identify American murdered in St James
KINGSTON, Jamaica — A woman found with her throat slashed in St James over the weekend has been identified as 26-year-old American model Desiree Gibbon.
According to foreign media reports, Gibbon, who had Jamaican roots, had travelled to the island on October 20, and obtained a permit to stay in the country for three months.
Gibbon’s father described as her as having a heart of gold. He said that everyone loved his daughter.
“She had to have been lured from that hotel because she had nothing on her,” her father said.
Her mother, Andrea Gibbon, said her daughter made friends on the island. She insisted that she would never go out at night alone.
Gibbon’s body was discovered with her throat slashed in bushes near the Long Hill main road in St James last Saturday morning.
The elder Gibbon said the family found out about her daughter’s death after authorities showed a photo to her uncle, who owns a hotel in Montego Bay.
