From an early age, Malik Campbell developed a passion for music. It was further fueled when he entered and won the SunCity Radio High School Disc Jock competition earlier this year.

“I entered the competition because I really want to be a professional disc jockey and to go far in the music industry,” said Campbell.

The 17-year-old, who graduated from the Jonathan Grant High School in Spanish Town, is living his dream. Thanks to SunCity 104.9 FM, he began his internship on Tuesday December 5. The internship is for eight weeks.

“The internship at SunCity is part of the prize package that I received for placing first in the competition. I want to make the best of this experience and hopefully I will be the Sunjock at the radio station,” he said.

He spoke about the opportunities that have come along, since he won the competition in March.

“I have been playing at a lot of events around the island. Entering the competition has really helped me in a big way. I’ve done events such as Magnum Wet Extreme and Container Saturdays,” he said.

Campbell is from Spanish Town. He has shared stages with selectors from sound systems, including Bass Odyssey, Chromatic and Stone Love.

The objective of the SunCity High School Disc Jock competition is to unearth the talents of students across the island, who aspire to enter the music industry. The fifth staging of the competition is set to kick off in January 2018.
