JTA again ‘disappointed’ with Government’s unchanged wage offer
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Jamaica Teachers’ Association (JTA) negotiating team walked out of today’s meeting with the Government “disappointed” again as there was no increase in the wage offer to teachers.
“We are very disappointed that the offer has not changed,” JTA said in a press release this evening.
Today’s negotiations came on the heels of a similar meeting that was postponed at the request of the Finance Ministry on December 5.
The JTA at the time said it hoped that the postponement was an indication that the Government is considering a significantly improved offer to the nation’s teachers, and as such was looking forward to today’s meeting with great expectation.
JTA said Minister of Finance Audley Shaw, who participated in today’s discussions, has indicated that he will have consultations with the Cabinet on specific items of the claim ahead of a meeting scheduled for Wednesday, December 20 at 10:00 am.
