KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) is reporting that it has launched investigations into the killing of five civilians in separate incidents by the police on Wednesday and Thursday.

The first fatal shooting happened in Parry Town, St Ann on Wednesday about 8:30 am. Cabrini Rose and Kirkland Rowe were shot dead during an alleged confrontation with members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) after they were informed of a location where they believed two wanted men were.

INDECOM said a .38 revolver with one live round and two spent casings were allegedly recovered from the scene and the concerned officers were interviewed and were served with notices to furnish statements today.

Hours later it was reported that two JCF officers were travelling along Mannings Hill Road to Constant Spring Road in St Andrew when they signalled a motorcycle to stop.

According to police reports, the pillion rider jumped off and fired in their direction.

Gunfire was returned, and an officer reportedly chased the man and he was discovered with a wound to his upper body.

A .45 semi-automatic pistol was allegedly recovered and the rider of the motorcycle taken into police custody.

The third incident occurred yesterday in Boscobel, St Mary where shop owner David McLean was shot dead.

The police reported that a team of four officers received information about the location of a wanted man.

Upon arrival of the police, it is said that the wanted man pointed his firearm at the officers, who in turn instructed him to drop the weapon.

The instructions were ignored and the officers fired at the man, the police said.

A .380 pistol was reportedly recovered from the scene.

INDECOM said the officers involved are to be interviewed early next week.

The last shooting happened when five officers went to a premises in Windsor, St Ann and a man they said was armed fired at them.

The fire was returned and the man was discovered to be injured. He was pronounced dead at the hospital. He remains unidentified at this time.

The commission is now appealing to anyone who may have witnessed or has information relating to the fatal shootings to assist.
