Boys Club snap losing skid, edge Hopewell 2-1
MONTEGO BAY, St James — Montego Bay Boys Club snapped their longest losing skid to start a Jamaica Football Federation Western Confederation/Charley’s JB Rum Super League season after beating Hopewell United 2-1 at the UDC Field in Montego Bay on Saturday.
Montego Bay Boys Club, last season’s beaten finalists, had lost the first four games this season, surpassing the first three they lost in the 2014-15 season, as former champions Granville United were left as the only team yet to win a game.
Meanwhile, Harmony FC ended Catherine Hall FC’s two-game winning run after they were beaten 2-0 at Irwin High with goals late in either half.
The win saw Harmony FC move into a three-way tie for first place with Reggae Youths and Beaches Negril in Zone One, all on seven points each, but Harmony FC have played four games to three by the other two.
At UDC field, all three goals came in the second half as Hopewell United finished the game with 10 players after Clive Vincent was sent off in the 86th minute after picking up his second caution.
The prolific Glenroy Williams scored in his second-straight game, netting in the 49th minute to give Montego Bay Boys Club the lead before Michael Thompson doubled the advantage in the 85th minute with his first goal of the season.
Despite the dismissal of Vincent a minute after Thompson’s goal, Hopewell United pulled one back deep into time added on.
At Irwin High, Romaine Lewis gave visiting Harmony FC the lead just before half-time when he finished off a good counter-attack when he slipped the ball past Catherine Hall FC’s goalkeeper Kevin Wilson after picking up a pass from Fitzroy Shirley on the right of the 18-yard box.
Lacon Brissett killed off any lingering hopes Catherine Hall might have had to salvage a point when he scored in the 89th minute after coming on as a second-half substitute.
