The Mona School of Business and Management (MSBM) will host Larry Quinlan, global chief information officer for Deloitte, for a public lecture on the topic, “The Challenges of Information Technology Leadership in today’s competitive Business Environment”, on Tuesday, February 6, at the University of the West Indies, Mona.

Quinlan is a principal at Deloitte besides serving as global chief information officer (CIO). He sits on Deloitte’s US Executive and Global Operating Committees and also chairs the Global CIO Council. Quinlan has responsibility for all facets of technology including strategy, applications, infrastructure, support and execution.

Quinlan also holds a Master of Business Administration degree from Baruch College, New York, and a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of the West Indies.

He will address key issues relevant to the topic, such as:

• The role of the CIO in influencing and enabling business strategy

• Realising business value through effective ICT Governance

• The activist responsibilities of boards and CEOs in enabling an innovative and value-adding ICT culture in the enterprise.

Quinlan spends significant time working with major clients discussing technology strategy, trends, and leadership. Additionally, he serves as dean of the Next Generation CIO Academy, Deloitte’s CIO leadership development programme for client executives.

He has been quoted in several major publications, including CIO.com, Forbes, The Wall Street Journal, and InformationWeek and has spoken at major industry events. Additionally, he has been honoured by institutions and publications including STEMconnector’s 100 Diverse Corporate Leaders in STEM, the Nashville Business Journal (2014 CIO Award), American Foundation for the University of the West Indies (Vice-Chancellor’s Award), CARAH (Outstanding Contribution to Corporate America), and CIO magazine (2012 CIO 100 Award).

In highlighting MSBM’s role in providing thought leadership in the domain of business and management, Dr Maurice McNaughton, director, Centre of Excellence MSBM, said that in today’s highly volatile and complex business environment, information technology has become much more critical in providing organisations with the capabilities and agility to be sustainably competitive and to grow into expanding markets.
