Mister Jamaica to oversee pageants
Fashion designer and stylist Franz Christie has been appointed the assistant director of the New York- and Massachusetts-based production and management company Sean B Production Company Inc.
President Sean “Sean B” Bardoo, who made the announcement, said he is “delighted to have Franz Christie join the elite group of highly recognised experts at the Sean B Production Company.”
Bardoo said that as assistant director, “Franz is directly responsible for six competitions — Mister Grand Jamaica, Mister Grand Colombia, Mister Grand Dominican Republic, Mister Grand Curacao, Mister Model of the Year, Miss Model of the Year, and Miss Supranational New York — all organised by the Sean B Production Company. He brings a fresh perspective and added value to the company.”
Christie, whose show-stopping masterpiece creations have been featured on runways in Jamaica, London, Paris, New York, Miami, and Washington, DC, has also been appointed the official designer for the competitions.
He operates a sewing studio and fashion boutique in Kingston, Jamaica, where he’s known for his trend-setting pieces and perfect attention to detail. Christie is of one of Jamaica’s most sought-after designers and his impressive clientèle includes Juliet Holness, Member of Parliament and wife of Prime Minister Andrew Holness; Yendi Philips, the first-runner up in Miss Universe 2010; and Kaci Fennell, the fourth runner-up in Miss Universe 2014.
Christie was discovered on a reality television fashion series in Jamaica. He developed his craft at the University of the Arts London and under the tutelage of Roberto Cavalli, one of the world’s premier designers, for whom he served as an intern and assistant designer.
Christie, who is the current Mister Jamaica, is no stranger to pageants, having designed for several Miss Jamaica contestants and recently competed in the Mister Supranational 2017 as the first contestant from his country.
Commenting on his appointment, Christie said, “I am happy to join such an exceptional team and I’m excited to work alongside these brilliant, creative, and talented people in staging these pageants over the next few months.”
He said his immediate focus is scouting for the various Mister Grand competitions, particularly in Curacao and Jamaica from where the Sean B Production Company hopes to send delegates, for the first time, to the Mister Grand International competition. Mister Grand International is a new competition that highlights ‘advocating human welfare’ and focuses on its candidates’ advocacy in humanitarian efforts. The competition is open to men between the ages of 18 and 28.
