AS an artiste, it has been nearly a decade since Delly Ranx has had a hit. He is, however, fairing better as a producer. His latest production, Family, by Popcaan is number one on most local charts. It is featured on his Cotton Swab rhythm.

“Being at the top is always great, no matter how it comes,” Delly Ranx told the Jamaica Observer. “I wanted Popcaan, and I reached out to him and he accepted the rhythm.”

On Friday he received a Lifetime Achievement Award from New York-based Loveline Muzik at its 31st anniversary and award ceremony.

The artiste/producer said he is humbled by the recognition.

“It’s a good feeling to be recognised for the work that you have been doing all these years. The feeling is overwhelming,” he said.

The Cotton Swab rhythm also features: This Is The Love by Da’Ville; Vershon’s No Worries; Better Days (Jah Wiz); Real Survivor (Bugle); Don’t Push Your Luck (I-Octane); When I Grow Up (Gappy Ranks); Wanted (Versatile); Just Wanna Be Free (Dre Island), My Talent (Kappa); Hold On (Jaziel Myrie -— son of Buju Banton); and Demarco’s Values.

This isn’t Delly Ranx’s first time scoring a chart-topper as a producer.

“I have been producing for a long time now. Some of my hit rhythms include Red Bull and Guinness, Hennessey, Ghetto Whiskey and Saudi Arabia just to name a few,” he said.

His earlier productions include Ganja Breed by Sean Paul featuring Chico. It was featured on Sean’s 2002 Grammy-winning album Dutty Rock. He also earned a Billboard entry when his production Weh Dem A Do by Mavado peaked at number 27 on the R&B Hip Hop Songs chart.

“What I like about producing is envisioning the product before it’s done. I have a lot of fun making music,” said Delly Ranx.

Delly Ranx (given name Delroy Foster) began doing music professionally at the age of 17. He started his Pure Music Productions label in 1998, and had already carved out a name for himself in dancehall music circles as a recording artiste. He had hits with Headache (featuring Elephant Man), Work Round Dem, Silly Billy, What A Gal Can Wine, Pon Di Corner (with Mega Banton), and Weh Di Time with Voicemail and dancer Bogle. The latter was recorded in 2008.

Delly Ranx recently released his 5th studio album titled Weed Market. The video for the title track is currently airing on BET Soul and VH1 Soul. His EP titled ReggaeLution is set for an April 27 release.

“Music is always evolving, and as a producer and an artiste I do my best to stay relevant without losing the original feel,” he said.
