What are your earliest memories of Kingston?

Going to Maiden Cay every Sunday; Coney Park in Hope Pastures; and going to the movies at Island Cinema, but instead of watching a movie everyone would go up on the roof. That was the Sovereign hangout of my time.

What is the most memorable meal you have enjoyed in Kingston?

The SkyDweller Salmon and House Mac and Cheese.

What would you do if you were mayor of Kingston?

If I were the mayor I’d first fix all the roads with the huge potholes; I’d allow outdoor parties to continue until 4:00 am; and end work at 3:00 pm on a Friday.

What recommendations would you make for a first-time visitor to Kingston?

Naturally, a day at the beach, a hike up the Blue Mountains and a street dance to experience authentic Jamaican culture.

Who/what is your primary source of inspiration when devising concepts for development projects?

Modern architectural style.

To what/whom do you credit your initial exposure to the development industry?

My father. He taught me everything I know about construction development and now I’ve added my own flair to it.

Which bit of knowledge acquired through your involvement in the development business has been most influential in shaping your social life?

Everybody is your equal. In the words of Vybz Kartel, Yuh nuh more dan me So I work with everyone and I hang out with everyone. I don’t believe in any form of discrimination.

Which three projects would you say have brought you the most gratification to date?

My first project with my father in Norbrook working on the construction site; my first renovation project done in Stilwell on my own; and now my first set of townhouses.

How would you describe your leadership style?

“Team work makes the dream work!” I believe in being a strong leader, but I’m not afraid to get my hands dirty. If you come on my site you’ll see me on the tractor digging up dirt.

What factors are most keenly considered when deciding on potential sites for projects?

Location, size and demand. For example, Kingston 6 and 8 are of higher demand than some other areas.

How significant is social media in the daily operations of your businesses?

In construction development social media definitely is not the best form of advertising…however, I’ve made it work for me. I post on my page regularly and it has definitely given me exposure and recognition.

I don’t have any. I believe that everything is a learning process and anything that I’ve done in the past has contributed to the businessman I am today.

As a millennial, how do you balance work and your social life?

Work hard, play hard. I’m at work by 8:30 am and put in a full day’s work. I then go to the gym before hitting the town with friends until 4:00 am. But the following day I’m back at work by 8:30. It’s difficult, but I make it work.

Which undertaking has been most challenging to date? Why?

I would have to say the project I’m currently working on. It’s the first scheme that I’m doing on my own. While I’m very proud of myself for doing it on my own, in the beginning the idea was a bit nerve-racking. Once people saw the site plan and started purchasing, however, I started to feel a little more relaxed. But I’m still hoping everyone is happy with what I produce.

Outside of development, what are your other passions?

I’m into fitness. I go to the gym five days a week. On weekends I go to the beach, and hang out with my friends at SkyDweller.

What are the key differences in the approach you take to a renovation project, as against a new project or a party?

A renovation project is usually someone else’s vision and I just add my touch to it. An entire new development project is my vision. A party is more like a new development, my vision but at the same time you have to consider what other people like to get a good crowd.

What, in your opinion, are essentials for the successful execution of a party?

Good deejay, good venue, good marketing and either a reasonable cover charge or a good bar.

What is your formula for ensuring the successful execution of your undertakings?

Always have a positive outlook on it. Be determined and disciplined. Remember the overall goal and don’t get lost in the “in-between”.
