19-y-o arrested, charged with illegal possession of firearm
ST JAMES, Jamaica — A St James youth was arrested on Thursday night following the seizure of a firearm during a mobile patrol by lawmen in Canaan district in the parish.
Reports from the police’s Corporate Communications Unit (CCU) are that the accused, 19-year-old Netovaughn Roshaun Downer otherwise called ‘Neto’ of Canaan district, Adelphi in the parish, aroused the suspicion of lawmen about 8:30pm.
He reportedly tried to discard the weapon and escape but the team gave chase where they said he was observed removing the weapon from his waistband and throwing it on the ground.
He was apprehended and the weapon, a 9mm Taurus Pistol with a magazine containing four rounds was retrieved.
Downer was subsequently taken to the police station where he was charged with illegal possession of firearm and ammunition.
