Dear Editor,

I am very concerned about the consistency, or lack thereof, of the National Integrity Action (NIA) in its recent calls for Prime Minister Andrew Holness to act with regards to what is being called the Petrojam scandal. Calls are being made for the prime minister to remove Minister Andrew Wheatley from the Cabinet, among other strikes.

While some of the calls may be justifiable by layman’s standards, what of the principle of natural justice and due process?

Isn’t the NIA oneof the so-called independent bodies investigating the issues at Petrojam. And, if so, have they concluded their investigations? And if they have, what are the findings?

This same NIA is not equally vociferous on matters which they have pronounced on in the past.

For example, remember the People’s National Party’s campaign finance missing funds saga? How is it that there were no calls for resignations or someone to give account for the funds? Didn’t the leader of the Opposition declare he was going to conduct an investigation and make the findings public? What has happen to that?

The Office of the Contractor General report on the constituency of Lisa Hanna concluded that there were issues there that warranted the investigation of the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, yet she is still a part of the Opposition shadow Cabinet. I hear no calls for her to be removed from her posts in the party or Parliament, although the Office of the Contractor General has completed investigations and has concluded the matter.

Finally, the People’s National Party has been making heavy weather about people being removed from positions in the public sector and are being replaced by partisans. How is it no one is asking them how these people (the ones being removed) were employed in the first place? Was it not on a partisan basis?

I agree two wrongs doesn’t make a right; however, the hypocrisy must stop and the NIA and others must be consistent in their actions/calls or no one will take them seriously.
