Is there still a problem of “noxious fumes” at the  Cornwall Regional Hospital?

This question is relevant as, in the not-too-distant past, we were inundated with daily news reports of developments at the hospital; but in recent weeks and months this item of news has fallen off the news radar. The silence is deafening!

Is it that the issues at the hospital have been resolved? Or is this another example of the media focusing our attention on an issue for ‘nine days’ before moving on to the next sensational story?

The Opposition’s calls for the resignation of the minister of health have fallen silent.

The Nurses’ Association of Jamaica’s veiled threat to pursue legal action against the Government on behalf of its members has not materialised, and there is no word on the matter from the junior doctors’ association or any of the other associations representing doctors.

The Opposition spokesman on health seems to have lost his enthusiasm for the issue and the calls for resignation are now focused on the minister of science and technology.

I would like to think I am not the only Jamaican with an attention span longer than nine days, so it would be refreshing if the media would gives us an update on developments at Cornwall Regional.

The embattled minister of science and technology must be praying day and night for the emergence of a new ‘scandal’ to capture the Opposition’s and media’s attention and release the stranglehold of attention on his ministry.
