‘Carrot’ was more than a musician — Phillips
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Leader of the Opposition Dr Peter Phillips expressed sadness and shock at the untimely death of noted musician Irvin ‘Carrot’ Jarrett today.
Dr Phillips lauded “the tremendous contribution of ‘Carrot’ Jarrett to the development of modern Jamaican music.”
He said that Jarrett was more than a musician, “he was a producer, song writer and radio presenter, who has been a stalwart in the industry from his days with Inner Circle and later the Grammy winning Third World band.
“The work of these moments was more than music, it was an affirmation of who we are as a people and Carrot was a central figure in that effort,” Dr Phillips said, adding that Jarrett was also one of the musicians behind the work of the National Dance Theatre Company.
“Carrot was a man who also believed in the healing power of music and saw it as a gift that should be shared globally. He was relentless in making himself available to assist others with their craft. For him, it was more than playing an instrument or singing a song,
it was connecting with others in a real and meaningful way. Carrot was a man who was humble and willing to go the extra mile to ensure excellence. He will certainly be missed,” Phillips said.
