Three killed in separate crashes yesterday
KINGSTON, Jamaica — As the nation celebrated Emancipation Day yesterday, three people died in separate motor vehicle crashes in St Catherine, St Ann and St James.
According to the police, 34-year-old Karel Lewis of a Newlands address in Portmore, St Catherine sustained fatal injuries when the vehicle in which she was travelling hit an embankment and overturned as the driver attempted to overtake another vehicle along the West Cumberland main road in the parish.
Lewis, who was among four passengers in the vehicle when it crashed about 8:45 am, was pronounced dead at hospital.
In the second incident, which occurred about 10:30 am, a motorcyclist died when his Supra bike collided with a Nissan Tiida motorcar, which had reportedly veered into the motorcycle’s path along the Old Folly main road in St Ann.
Huston Johnson, 47, was thrown from the bike and sustained multiple injuries, the police said. He was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Over in St James, 38-year-old Ricardo Wallace of Look- Out, Hopewell district, Hanover was driving his Toyota Ipsum station wagon with five passengers along Spring Garden main road about 8:22 last night when he allegedly lost control of the vehicle and crashed with an oncoming vehicle.
All six occupants of the Ipsum were taken to hospital where Wallace was pronounced dead the others admitted in serious condition.
