SUBRATIE’S SURGE
Trainer Gary Subratie has been piling up the winners of late, saddling six within the short period of eight days, July 28 – August 4.
Subratie’s list of winners were Hilly’s Halo, Nuclear Dan Dada (July 28), Miss In Kiss (August 1) and a rasping triple of Moms Treasure, Anna Lisa and Sarah Lee on August 4.
“It has been really coming together of late for me, but I am not a one-man band as there are others like the grooms, the stable lads, the owners, the jockeys, and the exercise riders who have all played a part in this purple patch for me,” the second-generation trainer said.
After being unproductive in the three-year-old Classic races, Subratie offered that part of his recent winners’ blitz has also been accomplished because many of his horses have been able to overcome niggling injury issues and are now able to be much more competitive, plus others are beginning to show their true potential.
“I am very encouraged with the progress of some of my inmates like Hilly’s Halo who is just about realising her true worth and, of course, there is always massive expectancy with the two-year-olds, in my case at the moment, Moms Treasure. I cannot make mention of my horses without calling the name of the very consistent Sarah Lee, who is the top-rated horse I presently have in my barn,” Subratie revealed.
Despite his six wins in eight days, Subratie is not about to rest on his success: “This has been a really good period for me and long may it continue.”
At present, Subratie holds third position in the trainers championship with a total of 29 winners up to August 6.
