Dhextrus on the rise
FAST-RISING deejay and producer Dhextrus is basking in the traction his latest single Go Hard is receiving.
Produced by KSwiss Records, the recently released single was voted one of the Best Summer Songs on the radio.
“I very happy about the accolade… The response has been good so far,” he told the Jamaica Observer.
Dhextrus (given name Andrew Dinnal) is also gaining an international presence Same Way and No More. The tracks released last year, are produced by global distribution house VP Records.
“But I want to stay motivated and that motivation for me is the love I receive from the fans locally and abroad. I am hoping that with this steady growth, I will be recognised by other major record labels and will be releasing music videos and making special appearances in the near future,” he said.
Dhextrus is co-principal of the Grant’s Pen-based Free Flow Records and and Mad Boss Production along with friend Kemoy “Blooddem” Blake, which they started in 2009.
“After growing up with the sound system (Black Tracks) in my yard, my love for music grew, and I always spent my free time playing CDs and cassettes, while splitting a few verses. Over time I was able to improve my skills, and here I am now enjoying the fruits of my labour. I always saw music as the easiest way of expressing myself and also the only method of freedom to make my voice be heard, so I am really happy that I have made it this far, but the journey continues and I am always looking to make that next step,” he added.
The label has launched projects, including Pop Di Cherry, C Breeze, and Gal Mi Check rhythms which were well received.
The artiste/producer’s growing reputation has enabled him to work with American-based rapper Bugatti 203, Kibaki, Singing Sweet as well as 3reatment and Skankie Don.
“I consider myself to be multi-talented and that is how I come by my name, because I was playing with the word ambidextrous, which means being able to use both hands. But I put a twist on it because I am an artiste who can do production equally well, so I am just having some fun with it,” he shared.
Dhextrus is known for songs such as Party Start, Mad Party, Coral Garden Rebellion, Believe (ft Samoya), and Unfair Justice.
“I want to be an even stronger and better artiste/producer, and in order to do that I want give back to the community. It is always better to give than to receive and so my aim in the industry is to help other talented young acts to achieve their goals,” said Dhextrus, who recently signed with overseas-based clothing line #KinFolk clothing. “Because it wasn’t an easy road for me and it still isn’t but once they love it and really want it and is determined to chase it then I want to help them to eventually succeed like I did.”
