Barbados made to sweat before getting over Guyana
KINGSTOWN, St Vincent (CMC) — Barbados were made to sweat by Guyana before pulling off a three-wicket victory in their third-round match of the Regional Under-19 Championship here yesterday.
Resuming the final day at Park Hill on 31 without loss requiring a further 101 runs for victory, Barbados lost seven wickets before getting over the line to post their second win of the tournament.
Nico Reifer top-scored with 39 and opening partner Shian Brathwaite got 22, extending their partnership to 43 before being separated.
When Brathwaite departed, Kadeem Alleyne (13) joined Reifer to add a further 21 for the second wicket to leave Barbados well poised on 64 for one.
However, left-arm spinner Kelvin Umroa ripped through the innings with a spell of five for 51 as Barbados lost six wickets for 44 runs in quick time.
Tottering on 108 for seven, number nine Joshua Bishop came to Barbados’ rescue, striking two fours and a six in an 11-ball unbeaten 16, as he put on a crucial 26 in an unbroken eighth-wicket partnership with Matthew Forde (14 not out).
Umroa finished with match figures of 10 for 134.
