The almost impossible occurrence of 10 favourites winning on a 10-race programme, more so on a Wednesday card at Caymanas Park, was nearly achieved last Wednesday (August 15, 2018).

Of the 10-races on tap, the first nine were all won by favourites. It was not until the night cap (the 10th race) that 36-1 outsider Big Dream, ridden by Aaron Chatrie and trained by Joseph “Sardie” Thomas, broke the intoxicating spell of the favourites coming down the five-straight course.

The day of favourites started in the first when Ice Ice Baby (Anthony Thomas) won at 7-5, defeating Gaga Lady and King Within. Then came oldster RunJohnny Run (Wesley Henry) at 4-5, followed by the even money favourite, Kingswood (Anthony Thomas) in the third.

Cat’s Rigger (Shane Ellis) was another even money winner in the fourth, with Crucial Appeal, the third winner on the day for Thomas, obliging in the fifth at 1-2 on.

The sixth was the Exercise Riders’ event which saw Anthony Radcliffe steering home the even money favourite, Light Brigade, to an easy win.

The shortest odds winner on the day, Simply Outrageous at 1-5 on, prevailed in the seventh, with Instagram (3-5) and Perfect Neighbour also at 3-5 doing the honours in the eight and ninth races respectively.

The plethora of favourite came to an end in 10th.

One regular racegoer told Supreme Racing Guide that he and his friends at the track were shocked with the Wednesday results.

“You look on it, all the exotic bets were won, as nearly all, except one of the favourites, were winners. This is the first time in the long years I have been coming to the Park that I have seen this happen and pon a Wednesday as well. No sah!

“But a suh it go, and we just have to live with it. Probably we need more competition in di races dem, but a suh. The only bets we could make money on, if anyone did, were the quinellas and the exacta,” the punter offered.
