Afrobeats on the Beach this Saturday
The Sankofa Sessions, an African music space held on Tuesday nights at the Stones Throw Bar, Mary Brown’s Corner in St Andrew, is expanding its repertoire this weekend with the staging of the back-to-school edition — Afrobeats on the Beach at Wickie Wackie Beach in St Thomas, come tomorrow.
Organiser Iset Sankofa noted that the event is a true testament to the power of a creative Kingston community.
“This event is an opportunity for us to say thank you lots and launch our twice-a-year school fund-raiser. Bit by bit, we want to help bolster the efforts of academic platforms within the cultural community that we know deserve the same love and support. Ultimately, as we get stronger, so, too, will we strengthen others.”
In true Sankofa style the event, sponsored by Street Supply Co urban wear and Zee’s Wines, will continue to explore the Motherland connection through African music, fusion rhythms and living foods, while incorporating the Ubuntu African philosophy of community building and humanity
Afrobeats on the Beach promises to be a high-energy, culturally charged spin-off of the Sankofa Sessions, featuring live performances by emerging reggae acts, Blvk H3ro and Asadenaki, with deejays Iset Sankofa and Elmo at the turntables.
