ST ANDREW, Jamaica — The constituency of St Andrew South Eastern this morning paid tribute to the life and work of its former Member of Parliament, Easton Douglas who died earlier this morning.

According to a statement from Member of Parliament Julian Robinson, Douglas served the constituency as MP from 1989 to 2002, and had a distinguished career in the public service before entering representational politics.

“He served as Permanent Secretary in the Ministries of National Security and Housing in the late 1970s and 80s and prior to that as Government Town Planner. He became Minister of Health in 1989 and over the 13 year period, served as Minister of Public Service and Minister of Environment and Housing,” the statement said.

In addition, he served as a Vice President of the People’s National Party.

“On a personal note, he served on the campaign teams for both my elections in 2011 and 2016 and was always willing to contribute and offer advice and guidance.

“We extend our condolences to his family and in particular his daughter Kari, who is the councillor for the Trafalgar Division in the constituency he represented.

“May his soul rest in peace and light perpetually shine on him,” Robinson said.
