A Well-designed Approach!

Thursday Social

Local design was on show Monday at the Jamaica Observer Design Week JA 2018 – presented by Kohler – with an exhibition inside L at the Spanish Court Hotel. The room was filled with ideators, interior decorators, and design aficionados in search of trendy concepts.

Naturally, the presenters reiterated the Buy Jamaica, Build Jamaica course of action before unveiling vignettes to present Living – an exclusive preview of the new collections by Angelie Spencer Home and Mara Made Designs. Living also featured the works of David Myrie, CEO of Exquisite Wicker; Victoria Silvera, artist and creative director of Touch by VLS; and Dana Baugh, creative leader at BAUGHaus Design Studio.

Each designer and featured artist was well represented in the five displays of Living, which included a Tropical Bedroom, a B&W Bedroom, Dining Room, Man Cave, and Bathroom with accompanying Powder Room – equipped with Kohler Jamaica and Tile City & Home Centre furniture and accessories.

The dining room and man cave were the most visited spaces of the exhibition whilst Mara Made Design’s new eight-seater guango river table with hand-poured teal, white and copper resin was the conversation piece for the evening. It was surrounded by a guango bench with matching legs and two-toned solid hardwood Parson’s dining chairs in an aqua and ivory colour combination. Exquisite Wicker’s handmade wicker pendants and wicker room dividers were inspired.

The Man Cave contained ASH and Mara Made Designs signatures: a guango standing lamp with a vintage Edison bulb, guango side table with glass inlay, guango mirrors, and a teak wine rack. The space also featured a #WASH – Wall by ASH, in a natural stone-look finish, and a natural calfskin Plantation chair with leather trim and a leather and calfskin pouffe.

Thursday Social fashions new techniques in design.

Jamaica Observer Design Week JA 2018 presented by Kohler continues until Sunday, September 30. Design Week JA 2018 is made possible by Tile City & Home Centre, National Commercial Bank, Caribbean Airlines, Spanish Court Hotel, Business Access TV and Wealth Magazine.
