THE race for entry into the Betting Gaming and Lotteries Commission (BGLC) and Supreme Ventures-sponsored Diamond Mile is gathering pace as horses, jockeys, trainers and grooms continue their preparation to participate in the country’s richest racing event.

Two automatic places are already designated, with Derby winner Drone Strike and last year’s Diamond Mile heroine She’s A Maneater already taking those slots.

Three additional automatic entries are to be decided on Burger King Super Day (November 10, 2018) as the winner of the Burger King Superstakes (10-furlongs), the Invitational Mile and the Glen Mills Caribbean Sprint Championship (six furlongs), are all granted a confirmed starting stall in the Diamond Mile.

Apart from the first two automatic entries ( Drone Strike and She’s A Maneater), the top five spots are completed by St Leger winner Marquesas and Oaks conqueror, the rapidly developing filly Fayrouz.

In fifth slot is the leading contender for the Horse of the Year crown, the Robert Pearson trained- Will In Charge, who has earned just under $4 million this season. Another Bullet from the barn of trainer Patrick Lynch, with approximately $3.5 million earned, is well on his way to be a Diamond Mile starter.

Following A nother Bullet, there are a number of horses who have earned over $2 million but under $3 million and they are likely to be starters but not has yet confirmed. These include 1000 Guineas winner Disability Charm along with Perfect Neighbour, Dontae, Mr Universe, Dysfunctional, Money Magnet, and Siempre Bueno.

One noticeable absentee from the list of top 30 earners thus far is the talented Bigdaddykool, the second place finisher in the last two Dimamond Mile races. After dealing with injuries, Bigdaddykool signalled a resounding return to form with a smashing win recently going over nine furlongs and 25 yards (1820 metres).

The grand showcase of local racing is set for Saturday, December 1.
