Fourth single from Heart of Jamaica

Fourth single from Heart of Jamaica

Today local artistes Chris Martin and Sevana release the fourth track from Appleton Estate’s reggae album Heart of Jamaica.

This track entitled The One is produced by Mikey Bennet and composed by music students from Edna Manley College to celebrate the spirit of Jamaican athletes — past, present and future.

Sevana is a budding Jamaican singer/songwriter. Her voice complements the smoothness of Martin’s vocals with her edgy timbre. This combined with Steven McHugh’s spoken word segment.

“Reggae is soul — drum and base — Reggae is the backbone of all music,” said Martin. “Appleton Estate’s Heart of Jamaica album is good music backed by a good brand. I commend Appleton Estate for taking the initiative to show that they are aligned with something truly Jamaican and in sync with the feelings of a nation.”

While recording The One, Martin envisioned track and field legend Usain Bolt making his way to the starting block.

“I just thought of him listening to this song as he was preparing to run a race. Our athletes are the pride of Jamaica. I wanted the song to capture that euphoric feeling for athletes as they compete, and for them to know how we (as a country) value and regard them—we’re proud of them.”

“Reggae is a feeling,” added Sevana.

“It’s a groove pocket that we fall into that no other genre can follow — it’s a vibe.” Sevana was eager to be featured on the album for the opportunity to work with iconic producer, Mikey Bennet. “It’s fitting that Appleton Estate is leading this initiative because they are such a big part of Jamaican culture. Everyone loves Appleton Estate, just like everyone loves reggae,” commented Sevana.

She is also proud of her contribution to The One.

“This song is about patriotism, pride, understanding that as a Jamaican you have value, worth and function — that you’re chosen to do something.” Sevana said.

She hopes this song will plant the seed in the minds of those who hear it to start seeking out their purpose in life, if they haven’t yet discovered it.

“ The One is another winner from an album of winners. It’s a feel-good song that is catchy, relatable and inspirational. It successfully hits on the pulse of our nation—our deep-rooted pride in our athletes, our search to become the best we as Jamaicans can be and our optimism for the future. This is exactly what Heart of Jamaica is about.”

Appleton Estate Jamaica Rum, in partnership with Bennet is exploring the heart of reggae by merging signature Jamaican beats with reggae artistes. The One is the fourth single from the project.
