Defending champions Duhaney Park Red Sharks ‘B’ continued their winning ways in Group A of the second round of the Rugby League: Around The Grounds-sponsored National Division Two Championship on Saturday, with a solid 44-8 win over Kingston Central Hounds at Campion College grounds.

Duhaney Park were led by Jenson Morris and Javian Bryan with two tries each, with Bryan kicking a goal as well. They were supported by Tevin Dixon, Marvin Thompson and Trae Rodriques with one try each. Kemoy Whyte kicked five goals, for the Hounds, while Kahil Green with two tries was the only points-scorer.

In game two at the same venue, Liguanea Dragons ‘B’ battled to a hard-fought 22-18 win over Mona Pelicans. Both teams traded the lead several times during the game and were tied at 18 all when Ashdane Beckford scored a dramatic try on the last play of the game, snatching victory for Liguanea.

Other try-scorers for the Dragons were Andrew Dixon, Adrain Hall (two) and Donovan Jackson. Dixon and Hall each kicked a goal to round out the scoring. For Mona, Romario Bartley led with two tries; support came from Michael Plowwright and Akeem Kitson with a try each. Bahamian national Jordan Isaacs kicked Mona’s lone goal.

In Group B, Caribbean Maritime University Spartans overpowered Portmore Eliminators 52-2 at Harbour View Mini Stadium. For the winners, Reinhardo Richards and Alpachino Mignott bagged two tries each, while Howayne Mathis, Joshaun Stewart, Shamoy Stewart, Stephan Williams, Adrian Brown and Nick Thomas each scored a try. Goal kicks came from Brown, Mignott, Stewart, Williams, Kevin Thomas and Mikel Facey. For Portmore, Okylo Kelly scored their points with a goal.

Meanwhile, it was another humdinger between Cedar Grove Cyclones and St Bess Sledgehammers at B B Coke High School in St Elizabeth. The Cyclones escaped with a close 36-28 win on the back of an incredible 32-point haul from National player and club founder Antonio Baker. He scored seven tries and kicked two goals to lead his team. The Cyclones other try-scorer was Shemar Nugent.

For the Sledgehammers, teenage standout Jowayne Forbes bagged four tries, while Akino Pennycooke, Shawayne Collins and Mckoy Foster each scored a try. Kamar Findlay added to the points total with four goals.
