Ribbiz heads downtown

Five years after opening the flagship Ribbiz Ultra Lounge at the Barbican Centre in St Andrew, principals of the entity have expanded the brand with Ribbiz Ocean Lounge.

Ribbiz Ocean Lounge was officially opened last week, despite being in operation for four weeks. Located at the Victoria Pier in downtown Kingston, the entity seeks to bring a new experience in night-time entertainment. The project is said to have cost “approximately $25 million”.

“We want to help make downtown Kingston an entertainment mecca and one of the go-to places. It’s a whole new experience in night-time entertainment that we are offering,” co-director Brian ‘Ribbi’ Chung told the Jamaica Observer.

The other directors are Kamal Bankay and Don Creary.

Chung has had years of experience in night-time entertainment. He co-owned the Cactus, Asylum and Quad nightclubs, which at their peak, attracted thousands of partygoers.

Chung explained why the location was chosen for this latest venture.

“An opportunity was presented to us for Victoria Pier and we knew that the redevelopment of the area by the government was a huge priority. Hence, we had to invest and make brand Ribbiz a part of the waterfront, thereby making our contribution to that revitalisation.”

He spoke about the demographic that is being targeted.

“We are targeting anyone who enjoys good food and excellent cocktails. The feedback so far has been awesome and we are grateful to our customers, both old and new, as well as our dedicated staff,” said Chung.

The co-principal shared plans for further expansion of the Ribbiz brand. He said Ribbiz Ultra Club is earmarked for a Constant Spring Road location, while another facility is planned for Miramar, Florida. No timelines were given.

Chung shared his secret formula to success.

“Always be passionate and dedicated in whatever you choose to do. Do it for the love’.
