Canadian man to serve 2 years for attempting to export cocaine
ST JAMES, Jamaica – A mandatory two-year imprisonment was among the penalties handed down to a Canadian man who appeared before the St James Parish Court for sentencing in relation to drug charges on Tuesday.
The man, John Edwards, was arrested in September 2017 when he was caught attempting to export 20 pounds of cocaine to Canada.
In addition to the mandatory term of imprisonment, Edwards was fined $1,000,000 or six months imprisonment for possession of cocaine and $2,000,000 or six months for attempting to export cocaine.
The sentences are to run consecutively to the mandatory sentence if the fines are not paid.
