THE young speeding guns are lining up against the oldsters in this year’s renewal of the Glen Mills Sprint Championship run over six furlongs (1,200 metres). The race unfolds tomorrow (November 10) at Caymanas Park.

Ten are entered in the event, and The Supreme Racing Guide analyses their chances in order of post positions.

MONEY MAGNET: (4.ch. f – Nuclear Wayne – Jazzy Jet) — Not the fastest of the lot, thereby making the one draw a cause for some concern. Money Magnet, however, has the ability to sit off any pace before pouncing when required. Money Magnet is game and very consistent, and if not hampered by the one draw, she is going to be in the thick and thin of this race. Her sheer class gives Money Magnet a good opportunity to come out on top.

BIMINI: (6.ch.m – Seeking The Glory – Maria Elena) –—Cannot compete effectively against these.

WONG DON: (4.ch.c – Traditional – Angela’s Favorite) — Wrong race.

CAMPESINO: (8.b.g – Compadre – Yaella) — Old timer who has probably seen better days.

PATRIARCH: (3.b.c – Casual Trick – Electrifying) — This young colt is as speedy as they come. Returned from surgery in Overnight Allowance on October 20 and spread-eagled rivals. Now, Patriarch faces real speed two steps up the ladder, where he will find some tough hard knocking rivals. Patriarch is a talented youngster whose presence will be felt throughout, but as is usually the case, at least, most of the times, he may need to catch the pace of the new class first before actually winning.

POKER STAR: (6.b.g – Liquidity – Buyabook) – Was once the king but has long since been dethroned.

CHACE THE GREAT: (5.ch. g – Greatness – Our Miss Ruth) — The current holder of the title who has been painstakingly and methodically prepared for the defence of his crown. The race is shaping up nicely for Chace The Great as, for sure, he won’t be going with what is expected to be a red-hot early pace; instead, he will be kept away from the front-runners and in the last 1 ½ furlongs he will pounce. Chace The Great has won this race before and he is going to do so again.

ZEPHYR: (5.ch.m – Nasheet – Rushing Force) — Has been running some good races of late, but moving two flights above her present position makes it difficult for Zephyr to win this one.

MR UNIVERSE: (4.ch.c – Region Of Merit – Raging Fury) — Fast, very fast, but Mr Universe, of late, has been showing that he is a fighter when required. He much prefers to go out in front and if not challenged will run away. Tomorrow he will not have things his own way and is going to be hounded from the get go. Can win but to do so, Mr Universe has to be well rated by his rider.

PEKING CRUZ: (3.ch.g – Traditional – Patty Girl) — Has come through the mud and grease of the various classes and has now qualified for Grade 1. There is no doubt that Peking Cruz has speed, but with other speedsters in the race, the young rider will have to be very astute in how he guides the gelding tomorrow. If he goes with the speed, there is every possibility that nothing will be left for the stretch drive. Yet, because of his tenacity gathered while going through the grades, Peking Cruz must have a good chance of winning.
