Phenom , the two-year-old offspring of Soul Warrior – Supa Lei did his best impression of half-brother Franfield , by sweeping to the lead and then powering to a relaxed half-a-length win on debut at Caymanas Park on Saturday last, November 3, 2018.

Owned by Garth Samuels and trained by Steven Todd, Phenom was sent off as an 8-1 betting option in the field of eight going five-and-a-half furlongs (1,100m) for the maiden special weight run.

After breaking in third place, Phenom went by horses running the half mile (800m) and then displayed strong resistance in deep stretch for the win under remote-pumping from Dane Nelson, while showing off those same immense strides that were Franfield’s trademark.

The chestnut colt covered the distance in 1:06.3 with splits of 23.1 and 46.2, defeating Duke (Dick Cardenas), Cairo (Wesley Henry) and Bold Smile (Orlando Foster).

“Good horse. I mean, Phenom is a very good racehorse. He is well bred and I expect improvement from him going forward. We are going to take our time with him in his development. It is early days still to predict anything substantial with him, but he is a very nice horse in the making,” Todd made known to The Supreme Racing Guide.

Jockey Dane Nelson then gave his thoughts on Phenom, his first local winner since returning from Canada. “It is always good to see two-year-olds winning the first time of asking as the hard work in preparing for the races paid off. This horse is a nice horse and with more room for improvement, I think he is one for the future.”
