Stranger Danger to ignite Ash Wednesday trophy feature
The Wayne DaCosta-conditioned highly rated dark bay gelding Stranger Danger seeks to complete four consecutive victories when he takes on rivals in the $1 million Ash Wednesday Trophy feature at Caymanas Park today.
The American-bred Stranger Danger, who was voted as champion two-year-old and champion foreigner last year, has been very impressive in his three races to date ranging from distances from five-and-a-half (1,100m) to seven furlongs (1,400m) with a combined margin of over 20 lengths.
Stranger Danger races here against older horses for the first time, and although this might be a factor, he is really expected to win this one without much difficulty.
The Ash Wednesday Trophy, an Overnight Allowance event for three-year-olds and upward, will go over six-and-a-half furlongs. The race is positioned as the eighth event on the 11-race card with a post time of 3:55 am. First race has a post time of 11:45 am.
There is no doubt that Stranger Danger packs class and talent. The manner in which Stranger Danger whipped his opponents in recent runs more than raised eyebrows — his performances have ignited the passion in racing fans.
Stranger Danger not only draws attention at the races, but also at the exercise periods in the morning. Stranger Danger won many fans after defeating the brilliant She’s A Maneater in one of his gallops.
Although racing in Overnight Allowance company for the first time, Stranger Danger looks a cut above this level and should remain unbeaten when this is over. The only thing that Stranger Danger will be running against here is the clock as it will be a matter of how far the far-striding gelding will win.
It will be a tight race for second place in this one as the other runners in the line-up are on equal grounds in terms of racing quality. Saratoga Sight, who has been running good races of late in higher class, can definitely get into the money here and possibly second place as well. My Elle Belle, Lici’s Pepsi and the disappointing last year’s Derby winner Drone Strike are all capable runners and should find a place in this one.
Also on the card are number of three-year-olds in preparation for the Classic series of races. The divided native-bred three-year-old maiden special weight event over seven furlongs (1,400m) should see some fireworks from the Dane Nelson-ridden pair of Extruder and Crimson. Extruder is lined up against 10 other runners in Division One and should get competition from Black River, Cairo and Case Closed, while Crimson has the likes of Awesome Miracle, Layu Kawen, Envisaged and Sebastian to content with in Division Two.
The sixth race, a Restricted Allowance event, will see locals Western Wheels, Juice Man and Special Counsel matching strides with foreigners Action Run, Dyna’s Pride, Summer Sun and Seadon over five furlongs (1,000m) on the round course.
