Former champs Coopers Pen and Salt Marsh bow into action in TFA Major League
COOPERS PEN, Trelawny— Two former champions, Coopers Pen and Salt Marsh United, are to open their seasons in the Trelawny Football Association’s Major League this afternoon when they meet in a Group 3 game at Coopers Pen, starting at 3:30 pm.
The competition got underway on Monday with two games, Friendship FC and Duncans FC both scoring 1-0 wins over Jackson Town and Daniel Town respectively, both in Group 1.
On Tuesday, Granville FC also started their campaign with a 1-0 win, defeating Holland United at Bounty Hall, thanks to a 78th minute goal from Roniel Cole.
Fifteen teams are participating in the competition — five teams each in three first round groups.
According to the format of the competition, teams are to play each other twice in their respective groups, and the top two teams from each group, plus the next two best third- placed teams, are to advance to the quarter-finals.
In the quarter-finals, the eight teams are to play in two groups of four each, and will play each other once in the group, with the top two teams advancing to the semi-finals, which will be played over two legs.
Today, Coopers Pen, a semi-finalist last season, will be hoping for a winning start against Salt Marsh United, while Duanvale FC and Rio Bueno FC are to meet at Duanvale, in a Zone 2 game.
