Marvin “Horseman” Pitterson, promoter of Stars R Us, says the next show in the series is scheduled for May 25. It will honour reggae’s great harmony groups.

“I don’t want to give anything away, but we are going to have a nice package,” he told the Jamaica Observer.

The last Stars R Us gig took place February 23 at Ranny Williams Entertainment Centre in Kingston. The bill was a mix of rocksteady, roots-reggae and old school dancehall artistes who Pitterson said all did well based on response from a fair-sized gathering.

“It was a great show in terms of production, all the artistes came out. The Tennors, Derrick Morgan, and Josey Wales did really well,” he reported.

The Tennors, whose hit songs include Pressure and Slide and Ride Yuh Donkey, were working in Jamaica for the first time in 20 years. Morgan, a ska pioneer, was lauded by the Jamaican Government in its Reggae Gold ceremony and by Jamaica Reggae Industry Association, this week.

Jack Radics, Ken Boothe, Admiral Bailey, Big Youth, Carl Dawkins, Tony Tuff and Paul Elliott also performed on Stars R Us which attracted a crowd of over 700.

Pitterson said the event got a big boost by the appearance of neo-roots artistes Chronixx and Jesse Royal, who performed earlier on a show at nearby Hope Gardens. They were backstage showing respect to the veteran artistes.

Hope Gardens will also be the venue for Pitterson’s next show to be held on Mother’s Day.
