The Uchence Wilson gang trial will resume today in the Home Circuit Court with the continuation of the testimony from a former member of the gang after the trial was postponed yesterday.

Chief Justice Bryan Sykes, who is presiding over the trial, on Monday indicated that he had an out of town commitment and as result the matter was set for resumption yesterday in the afternoon session. But word later came that the judge would not be able to get back in time, resulting in the afternoon session being cancelled.

The alleged leader of the gang, Uchence Wilson, and 22 of his co-accused, were remanded.

Wilson, the alleged deputy leader of the gang Fitzroy Scot, and three females including Wilson’s companion Shantol Gordon, police corporal Lloyd Knight as well as two former employees of a pawn shop in Kingston are being tried for various offences under the Criminal Justice (Suppression of Criminal Organisations) Act, commonly referred to as the Anti-Gang Legislation. They are also facing illegal possession of firearm and ammunition charges.

The Crown witness, who will enter his fifth day of testimony, is expected to continue providing more details about the roles and operation of the gang which, based on his testimony so far, was well-organised.

On Monday, before the trial adjourned, the witness reiterated that Wilson was the leader and that he was the one who assigned various roles to each gang member.

“He give us strict instruction on which robbery we going or which robbery we not going on, who supposed to take which gun and how much shots we need,” said the witness who has been testifying via video-link from a remote location.

During previous testimony, he also told the court that Wilson was the boss because he was the person who decided how much money would be given to the various members and also signed off on the price for which stolen goods would be sold.

The witness also outlined the roles of some of the alleged gangsters, who are not only alleged to have carried out a string of robberies but also rape, murder, and wounding of victims.

The witness told the court that members of the gang were assigned various roles, including driver, driver of stolen vehicles, shooter, robber, spotter (a person who selects places and people to rob), seller of stolen items, transporter of firearms, person who cuts up car parts, jammer, the person who accosts the victims, and those who hid firearms.

According to the former gangster, who has so far provided details of 12 robberies in which two of the victims were his relatives, and one in which a man was shot four times, the criminal outfit would do a profile on the area, which would include observation, driving by on more than one occasion, and assessing the easiest route in and out as well as how to enter the premises.
