TWO cops have been hospitalised following a three-vehicle crash on Perkins Boulevard in St Andrew yesterday.

A motorcyclist, his pillion passenger and the driver of a black BMW motor car are also in hospital.

However, up to press time last night, the police were unable to confirm the number of people hospitalised or provide details on their condition.

When the Jamaica Observer arrived at the scene of the crash in the vicinity of Strudbridge Road and Coronada Avenue minutes after 5:00 pm, fragments of a motor bike were strewn on the road. Also, a fairly new police vehicle — a Toyota Hiace bus — that was transporting the cops, overturned and blocked a section of the road.

A crashed BMW motor car was also seen with the airbags deployed and a wheel missing.

According to residents from nearby communities, they heard a loud sound about 3:45 pm but didn’t imagine a crash. Instead, they thought a motorist had fallen into one of the potholes on the road.

“When I came out I saw two guys on the ground, one of them was bleeding from his head profusely,” one resident, who gave her name as Pauline, said.

Another resident, who spoke from behind her fence, said she also heard the sound.

“I didn’t hear any brakes like a vehicle trying to stop, so I never thought it was a crash. When I came out I saw two men bruk up and lying on the ground,” she said, adding that they were later taken to hospital.
