Reyan Lewis continues good form with triple
Apprentice Reyan Lewis has hit a purple patch of late, bringing home winner after winner.
Lewis booted home three winners on Saturday’s 11-race programme to move his tally of winners to 18 for the year.
He started his triple run in the fifth race after guiding the Gresford Smith-owned and -trained Lady V to a 3 ¾-length victory down the five-furlong (1,000m) course. Lady V won in a time of 1:03.2 ahead of Royal Girl (Christopher Mamdeen) and Call To Duty (Phillip Parchment).
With the morning line favourite My Super Girl scratched, Lewis took the opportunity and drove El Profesor to victory for his second win in a Restricted Allowance event over 6 ½ furlongs (1,300m). El Profesor defeated Sea Swan (Aaron Chatrie) by 2 lengths, with Anna Lisa (Anthony Thomas) third. The final time was 1:20.2.
Then in the ninth race Lewis made all on Rising Bop to win an Optional Claiming event ($550,000-$500,000) over a mile (1,600m). Rising Bop won by 1 ¼ lengths ahead of Danos La Paz (Omar Walker) and Burlin (Raddesh Roman).
Blu Attitude wins Al Gopie Memorial Cup co-feature
After 12 previous starts, Blue Attitude came up big when she romped home in the maiden condition race for the Al Gopie Memorial Cup over the five-furlong (1,000m) straight course.
With Christopher Mamdeen in the saddle, Blu Attitude showed good speed at the off along with Mother Nature (Natalie Berger). Blu Attitude stayed with the field for a while before she began to draw away. The four-year-old bay filly cruised home by 2 ¼ lengths ahead of Chief of State (David McKenzie), who came with a strong run for second place. Mother Nature held on for third.
Eleven horses claimed
The claiming box was very active as 11 horses were claimed on the 11-race programme on Saturday.
In the first race, Norman Smith claimed Cue Three for owner Unruly Connection from Keffin Murray; Stanley Findlay claimed Lion of Judah for owner Patrick McKenzie from Errol Waugh; Ryan Darby claimed Jon Marshall for owner Rohan Daley from Phillip Lee; and Edward Hamilton claimed Jason’s Gold for owner Orville Johnson from Ryan Williams. All claims were made for $250,000.
In the fifth race, Tough Cookie was claimed from Lawrence Freemantle by Michael Beecham for owner Raphael Gordon; Ictus was taken from Steven Todd by Michael Thomas for owner Jahlene Thomas; and Royal Girl was claimed from Ryan Williams by Donovan Plummer for owner Real Youth Connection. All horses were claimed for $250,000.
In the ninth race, Donovan Plummer claimed Flying Machine for owner Denrick Chambers from Norman Smith for $550,000; Shaun Williams took Rising Bop for owner Dennis Thwaites from Stanley Findlay for $550,000 ;and Nicholas Smith claimed Meet Justin for owner Master Gate Connection, also for $550,000.
In the 10th, Steven Todd claimed Zi Beast for owner Randolph Shaw from Alford Brown for $450,000.
