Jamaican Olympian and regional and international swimming icon Alia Atkinson continues to fulfill her promise of spreading her vast knowledge of the sport across the world and especially the region.

She conducted a swim clinic called “Unleashing Greatness” in St Lucia, from Friday through to yesterday at Rodney Heights Aquatic Centre.

Yasmin Tyson, Aquatics Development Officer in St Lucia, and one of the persons responsible for organising the clinic, gave the following details about the clinic.

“Alia came in on the 25th and her session started on Friday, April 26. The title of the clinic is Unleashing Greatness. There are two groups of competitive swimmers from the eight and under to the 13-14 age groups.

“The total number for that group was 18 swimmers. We also added a learn to swim component to the clinic where we had 19 children from Soufrière and she is doing a learn to swim session with them. This clinic serves as a motivating factor for our swimmers. Most of them were in awe that they were actually meeting a World record holder and Olympian.

“It is truly amazing to see the interaction with Alia and how she is able to come down to their level. It is going quite well so far; we are truly impressed and we won’t hesitate to have her back next year,” Tyson said.
