2019 NFL WEEK 4: Dallas Cowboys vs News Orleans Saints the biticket matchup

After three completed weeks in the regular season, seven teams are sitting with a 3-0 record and seven teams that are yet to register a win.

While some of those sitting at the top were expected to shine — the New England Patriots, Los Angeles Rams, Kansas City Chiefs and Dallas Cowboys, in particular — others, such as the Buffalo Bills, San Francisco 49ers and Detroit Lions have all started surprisingly strong after registering losing seasons last year.

The Patriots, despite their three-week soap opera with Antonio Brown, were dominant in week 3, so, too, were the Cowboys and Chiefs (at least in the first half). The winless Miami Dolphins, Pittsburgh Steelers and New York Jets were their dismal selves and will be hoping for miracles the rest of the way.

This weekend, the Patriots and Bills face off in the only clash of undefeated teams and something must give. New England’s opponents in the first three weeks have a combined 0-9 record (Steelers, Dolphins and Jets) while Buffalo’s opponents haven’t fared much better at 1-8 combined (Jets, New York Giants and Cincinnati Bengals). A more competitive encounter is ahead on Sunday for both teams, but the Patriots have won seven in a row in Buffalo, and it is inconceivable that they won’t return home with a 4-0 record.

The only possible chink in the Patriot’s armour may be the availability of reigning Super Bowl MVP Julian Edelman who suffered a chest injury just before half-time last Sunday that knocked him out of the game. This significantly changed the New England game plan against the Jets and made the encounter a lot closer than expected.

Outside of the 49ers, all other 3-0 teams participate in week 4 albeit against opponents with less than stellar records.

However, the matchup between the Cowboys and the Saints in New Orleans is this weekend’s hottest ticket.

Along with the fact that the Saints are going to be without their future Hall of Fame quarterback (QB) Drew Brees, they are near the bottom of the league in pass defence, allowing 301.7 yards per game through the air.

Dallas’ QB Dak Prescott boasts the NFL’s second-ranked passer rating (128.0) with 920 total yards, averaging over 305 yards per outing and will test the mettle of his hosts.

The Cowboys come to town as JustBet 4-point favourites with a defence that has allowed only 44 points over three games (which ranks fourth in the NFL) and a pair of running backs that finished last Sunday with over 100 yards each — the first time since 1998 when the current head coach (Jason Garrett) was the starting QB.

New Orleans is always a difficult place to visit and come away with a win, but the Cowboys appear very competent and should take down this formidable foe in a close contest.

Another intriguing matchup should be the JustBet 10-point favourite, LA Rams hosting the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The ESPN Football Power Index gives the Rams an 81-per cent chance of winning but, statistically, the teams are more evenly matched than what it seems on paper.

The Rams had to face the Panthers on the road in week 1, followed by an NFC championship rematch with the New Orleans Saints then an away game last Sunday night against the Cleveland Browns. They have come out swinging and remain unbeaten, despite some struggles from QB Jared Goff.

The Buccaneers lost big at home to the 49ers in Week 1, then visited Charlotte and overcame the Carolina Panthers but returned home last Sunday to suffer a narrow defeat by the lowly New York Giants. This is a game the Rams should win but they are not as solid as the Super Bowl runner-up of last year and it may come down to the last few plays. Bet on the Rams to win but the 10-point gap may be a stretch.
