After a superb stretch run involving several horses vying for control, three-year-old chestnut colt Summer Sun burst through on the outside of rivals and got up in the nick of time to win the top-rated $1-million Restricted Overnight Allowance event at Caymanas Park yesterday.

Ridden by promising apprentice Raddesh Roman, Summer Sun, who had traffic problems down the backstretch, got his head in front at the end by 1 1/2 lengths over My Elle Belle (Oneil Mullings), Wartime (Javaniel Patterson), and Madam Secretary (Anthony Thomas) in that order.

Owned by Carlton Watson and trained by Wayne DaCosta, Summer Sun ( Afleet Alex — A Lome Theme) covered the distance of 7 furlongs (1,400m) in a time of 1:26.2 minutes.

It was the second winner on the 11-race card for both DaCosta and young Roman.

DaCosta had saddled Sure Cote (Oneil Mullings up) in the sixth race over 5 furlongs straight (1,000m), while Roman won aboard Buckaluck for trainer Renex Burrell in the fifth race over 5 furlongs round.

Also with two winners were trainer Ian Parsard and jockey Dane Dawkins. The duo teamed up with Coco Chanel in the first race over 6 ½ furlongs (1,300m) and Classy Miss in the very next race over 5 furlongs round.

Racing continues next weekend, Saturday, October 5, and Sunday, October 6 with the LASCO Distributors Limited-sponsored Superstakes weekend of racing. On Saturday will be the Caribbean Sprint Championship and the Juvenile Sprint, and on Sunday, the Superstakes and Invitational Mile will run.
