Rum anyone? Then take a trip to Appleton Estate

Let us invite you to take a tour with us… a rum tour.

Yup! Let’s go on the world-renowned Appleton Estate Tour that is sure to give you a special taste of Jamaica’s rich culture.

Nestled in Nassau Valley in the breadbasket parish of St Elizabeth, the Appleton Estate is the oldest sugar estate and distillery on the island.

Appleton Estate’s first documentation of rum

production dates back to 1749. However, it is believed that the estate’s history

goes back as far as 1655 with Sir Francis Dickenson.

The estate’s location is

said to be the perfect combination of characteristics

— a special soil composed of a limestone formation, known as ‘Cockpit Karst’, and

favourable climate with sunny mornings and tropical afternoon showers. The

result is some of the finest sugar cane on the island.

Upon entering the Appleton

Estate, you will forget the age of this distillery, as the grounds are well kept,

and the building is beautifully maintained.

The two-hour tour begins with a complimentary glass of rum punch before guests are taken back in time and shown how sugar was extracted using a donkey-driven mill more than 200 years ago.

Visitors are then taken to the distillery where Appleton Estate’s pot and column still

production processes are explained.

At the ageing house, as far

as the eyes can see, there are thousands of oak barrels in which the rum is

stored for fermentation.

The tour also includes the

tasting of sugarcane juice, and guests are introduced to wet sugar and

molasses.

And here comes the fun part! As the tour concludes, visitors are given the opportunity to taste various rums. And as a bonus, everyone is given a small souvenir bottle of Appleton rum when the tasting comes to an end.

If you love rum, then the

Appleton Estate tour is perfect for you.

The frequent rain at Appleton Estate isn’t surprising since the property is surrounded by lots of greenery.
The donkey, Paz, is used to demonstrate how sugar was extracted in the past.
The grounds of the Appleton Estate is well maintained.
Guests also get to taste molasses at this spot.
The tour ends with a souvenir bottle of Appleton rum and rum tasting.
