Jamaica Tallawahs disastrous campaign in the Caribbean

Premier League Twenty20 cricket competition ended on Thursday when they lost

their final match of the preliminary round to the Guyana Amazon Warriors by 77

runs at the Providence Stadium in Guyana.

Winning the toss and electing to bat, the Amazon Warriors

posted 156 for six from their allotment of 20 overs and then restricted the

Tallawahs to 79 off 16.3 overs.

It closes the season for the Tallawahs as they ended the

preliminary round on four points with only two victories, which both came

against the Barbados Tridents. The Tallawahs ended at the bottom of the points

standing.

The victory, on the other hand, solidifies Amazon Warriors’

position at the top of the standing as they have won all nine matches to be on

18 points with one match to play.

In the Amazon Warriors’ innings, they were placed in a competitive position by middle-order batsmen Shoaib Malik and Sherfane Rutherford. They repaired the innings after Oshane Thomas and Derval Green had the Amazon Warriors struggling after the first eight balls into the match with the loss of four wickets. Amazon Warriors’ captain Malik made 73 off 45 balls with

five fours and two sixes, while Rutherford contributed 45 off 43 balls with

five fours and one six.

Tallawahs lost wickets consistently through their innings and never put up much of a fight as they faltered to their lowest total of the season. Imran Tahir got three wickets for the Amazon Warriors with

Qais Kamawal and Keemo Paul each getting two wickets.
