All set for Kanye’s Sunday Service, says Grange
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport, Olivia Grange, says all is set for the American rapper, Kanye West, to host his pop-up Sunday Service series in Kingston, Jamaica this Heroes’ Weekend.
Sunday Service is a series of gospel concerts that Kanye has been hosting across the United States.
The free concert will take place this Friday at Emancipation Park in New Kingston beginning at 7:00 pm.
Grange noted that this is the first time Sunday Service will be hosted outside of the United States and Kanye “couldn’t have chosen a better country than Jamaica”.
She said her ministry is pleased to facilitate the performance in the country as it supports the Government’s programme to establish Jamaica as the preferred destination for music and sport events.
The Ministry of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport is working closely with the Jamaica Tourist Board; the Passport, Immigration and Citizenship Agency; the Kingston and St Andrew Municipal Corporation and other government entities to ensure the success of the event.
More than 100 performers are due to travel with Kanye to Jamaica.
The rapper first emerged as a producer for Roc-A-Fella Records in the early 2000s. There, he produced songs for Alicia Keys, Ludacris and Jay-Z. Originally from Atlanta, he moved to Chicago during his teenage years. He later became a rapper and has, to date, released eight studio albums. He is scheduled to release a new album, Jesus is King, on October 25 on his GOOD Music label in conjunction with Def Jam.
He has won 21 Grammy Awards and is known for hit songs such as All Falls Down, Through The Wire, Jesus Walks, Gold Digger, Stronger and Heartless. I’m In It, a track from his 2013 album Yeezus, featured Agent Sasco.
