KINGSTON, Jamaica — The police are reporting several successes following increased operations carried out by detectives assigned to the Criminal Investigations Branch (CIB) in various police divisions across the island.

On Tuesday, November 5, 29-year-old Navardo Marshall otherwise called ‘Teeto’ or ‘Shortman’, of Hanover Street, Spanish Town in St Catherine was arrested and charged with the offence of rape.

Reports are that earlier that day, the complainant made a report to the police who launched an intensive investigation. Marshall was subsequently arrested after he was positively identified by the complainant.

Marshall’s court date will be announced at a later date.

Meanwhile, five men – one from St Thomas, one from St James and three from Portland were arrested and charged with breaking offences.

Thirty-four-year-old Ramone Green otherwise called ‘Shane’, of a St Thomas address, was charged with housebreaking and larceny after he was caught breaking into a house on Ocean Boulevard, South Haven in St Thomas.

Reports are that about 9:30 am, on Monday, November 11. Police were on patrol in the area, when they saw Green exiting a house with a Sharp television set, a tablet and a gold plated chain. He was accosted and taken to the Yallahs Police Station where he was subsequently charged.

Green is to reappear in the St Thomas Parish Court on Friday, December 20.

Meanwhile, in Flankers, St James, 27-year-old Davion Hylton of Paradise, Norwood in the parish was charged with shop breaking and larceny following an incident at Codac Street.

Reports are that on Monday, October 21 about 8:30 pm, Hylton allegedly broke into a shop and removed several items. He was subsequently arrested on Sunday, November 10, after an investigation was conducted. Some of the stolen items were recovered.

Three other men were taken into custody following a similar incident at Woodstack Housing Scheme in Buff Bay, Portland.

The three men are 26-year-old Tarik Murray, otherwise called ‘PK’; 41-year-old Andre Hart, otherwise called ‘ Bull Age’;  and 21-year-old Kemar Stewart, otherwise called ‘ Blacks’ or ‘Rasta’, all from Woodstack Housing Scheme.

Reports are that on Wednesday, October 23, the three men were seen on surveillance video breaking into a house in the community. A report was made to the police and the men arrested.

Hart is scheduled to reappear in the Portland Parish Court on Wednesday, December 11.

The police said the prosecution offered no evidence against Murray and Stewart when they appeared before the court earlier this month.

And, on Wednesday, November 12, Michael Barrett, 32, of Johnson Common in Bickersteth, St James was arrested and charged for the Saturday, November 2 shooting incident of a man in his community.

Barrett was charged with wounding with intent and illegal possession of firearm and ammunition.

Also charged with illegal possession of firearm and ammunition and robbery, is 23-year-old Leondo Jarrett, otherwise called ‘Dio’, a painter of Time and Patience district in St Catherine.

Reports are that about 5:45 pm on Wednesday, November 6, Jarrett allegedly held a man at gunpoint, robbing him of a camera and cellular phone.

Jarrett is scheduled to appear in the Corporate Area Gun Court on Friday, November 22, the police said.

In the meantime, 29-year-old Richard Lawson otherwise called ‘Richie, labourer of Bridge Mount Crescent, Central Village in St Catherine was slapped with several charges — illegal possession of ammunition, assaulting a constable, resisting arrest and unlawful wounding.

Reports are that on Thursday, November 14, about 6:30 am, Lawson was observed by lawmen acting in a manner that aroused their suspicion. Upon seeing the police, he allegedly threw a black plastic bag on the ground.

The police said that he was accosted and the bag found to contain five 12-gauge cartridges, six .380 cartridges, one 5.56 cartridge, and one .380 cartridge. During his arrest, police said Lawson resisted, hitting an officer in the face.

Lawson will appear before the court next week, the police said.
