Reggae music for the people – Mortimer, Deja Villa deliver at MoDA Music

Redesigning the image of reggae and pop culture music, MoDA Music 2019 recently concluded day two of its three-night series of entertainment acts.

MoDA Music powered by New Wave Ja is a platform geared towards cultural development. New Wave Ja’s Creative Director, Lindsey Lodenquai believes the addition of music to the MoDA experience adds greater value and opportunities to upcoming creatives.

Founder of The Collection MoDA, Kerry-Ann Clarke, explained that MoDA Music was awakened in an effort to continue its push in placing Kingston, Jamaica as the leading cultural ecosystem in the region.

“MoDA is all about promoting creative talent, every kind of creative talent. Lindsey has New Wave and does an awesome job in housing musicians. So, that’s how the partnership was born,” she said.

“We hope that MoDA will grow into creative platforms for restaurants, chefs, designers, musicians and other creatives. That’s our vision for year 10 or 15,” she added optimistically.

Night two opened with scores of patrons caught lyming before the acts commenced.

Greeted by electrifying beats, DJ Drumline ensured patrons

were continuously rocking to the blissful jams. Accompanied by laser light

beams, the stage came to life evoking high anticipation for the acts slated for

the night.

The entertainment hub was supported by its sister arm, MoDA Market, where buyers were compelled by the mystifying beats to see what was happening.

The line up for the night included Mortimer and Deja Villa – promising entertainers who delivered scintillating performances.

Deja Villa, the power duo, kicked off the night with a phenomenal performance that had the crowd craving for more.

In closing off their act, Sarah-Deja Villa performed a solo act that had the crowd demanding a “Pull up”.

Mortimer, a Jamaican recording artiste had the crowd captivated by his enthralling voice. The upcoming artiste pulled from a music catalogue of traditional roots reggae tracks infused with contemporary beats.

Performing songs from his newly released EP, Fight the Fight, the artiste received an overwhelming response from the audience.

The reggae entertainer told BUZZ that his EP was an emergence of the realities he has been facing, so he channelled his experiences through his music.

“This project tells a lot of the fights I had,” he said.
