Craigy T heads to Costa Rica
Craig “Craigy T” Thompson, former member of the dancehall quartet TOK now turned solo artiste, has taken to the road to promote the lead tracks for his album 1 with a performance in San Pedro, Costa Rica last Friday.
The artiste who left the island on Wednesday told the Jamaica Observer that Costa Rica, is one of those markets in Central and South America that has always proven popular from his days with TOK and that that continues now that he has decided to step out on his own since the group which comprised Alistaire “Alex” McCalla, Roshaun “Bay-C” Clarke, Xavier “Flexx” Davidson, and Craigy T, which disbanded in 2015.
“I really can’t put my finger on it… I’m trying to think and I can’t really say what is the reason behind the love that feel in Costa Rica. It was always a great spot for us when I was with TOK and it is continuing right now that I am pushing my own music. They have always gravitated to the music in a special kinda way, which is great and I can only give thanks. They called me and invited me to come down and share my new stuff and I was like why not. I am going down there for a meet and greet with the fans as well as a performance with Ward 21.”
While in Costa Rica Craigy T will be using the opportunity to shoot the video for one of the single Rock With Me Girl. He will be using a Costa Rican crew to shoot, which will include the performance in San Pedro.
Meanwhile, he is pleased with the traction he has been receiving from the lead single Issa Jamaican Ting, which hit the streets in September. The project combines the talents of Orlando, Florida-based producers DJ Buddha and released on the Therapist Music imprint as well as Craigy T’s own label Gafjam.
“I could say the response has been overwhelming, but I will be conservative and just say great. The major surprise for me has been the way in which the Jamaican public has taken to the song. Every artiste wants to hear his song play over and over, but when I perform or even just go on the streets people are already singing the song word for word, line for line, that is just amazing for me,” he said.
The artiste will use the rest of this year to continue promoting the project in the streets. He has already shot the video for the lead single with director Mark Anthony Chen, and it should be released in another two weeks. He will also be pushing for videos for two other songs by early next year.
“We are still not sure which will be out next single. So right now we are gathering visuals for all three songs, Last Time, Rock With Me Girl and Plastic Smile, so that once we decide we can release everything at one time,” Craigy T shared.
