Industry, Commerce, Agriculture and Fisheries Minister Audley Shaw hailed as a “major step in the right direction” the recent export of 10 kilograms or 22 pounds of legal ganja (cannabis), from Montego Bay, Jamaica to Canada.

The shipment was made by licensed Jamaican Cannabis company, Global Canna Labs last week under the watchful eyes of the Cannabis Licensing Authority among other government entities.

Shaw made the announcement at the CANEX Investment Summit at the Fairmont Royal York Hotel in Downtown Toronto, Canada last Thursday before a gathering of local and international investors.

Global Canna Labs is one of the leading medical cannabis companies in Jamaica and operates under a Tier 3 operator’s license on its 270,000 square foot facility in the heart of Montego Bay, Jamaica. The Tier 3 license is the largest issued license by the Cannabis License Authority (CLA) for the cultivation and production of medical cannabis.

Director of the Cannabis Licensing Authority, Delano Seiveright, who also addressed investors.

“The authority has been very diligent and focused in ensuring that the industry continues to be supported within a very stringent regulatory environment that is in full compliance with local and international laws. A total of 49 licenses have been issued with another 16 applications at the granted stage. Many other major developments are in the works,” he said.
