Phillips pays tribute to Prof Edwin Jones
DR Peter Phillips, Member of Parliament for East Central St Andrew and former Opposition leader, said yesterday he was saddened by news of the sudden passing of long-time friend and colleague Professor Edwin Jones.
“Professor Jones was an insightful scholar and public servant who made a major contribution to the development of public administration in modern Jamaica,” Dr Phillips said.
Jones was a professor of public administration at The University of the West Indies and erstwhile chairman of the Public Service Commission.
He also served on several public boards and as special adviser in the Office of the Prime Minister between 1993 and 2001.
“As an outstanding Jamaican and an educator of very high standards, Prof Jones served faithfully and with distinction in both academia and the public sector. He will be missed,” Dr Phillips said as he offered condolence to Jones’ family and colleagues.
